The house: presentation.

The weather couldn't be better this weekend to take a few pictures last evening and present our new town in Kent. A pleasant city actually because it owns a magnificient cathedral... but it's still more the size of a town for me. With a high street full of independant bakers, delicatessen, arty shops, traditionnal pub around and yummy restaurants. What I really appreciate here are the different places where we can enjoy a walk: by the castle, down to the boats, through the park and of course along the streets to enjoy the gorgeous period houses...

Our new little nest is a Victorian terraced-house built at the end of the 19th century, with when we moved in 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, dinning room, living room, downstairs bathroom and a low maintenance garden - which means: no grass, all paved with concrete and gravel - wonderful!
Every room was covered with a mosaic of different carpets, colors and patterns. Every wall was covered with at least 3 layers of wallpaper but I think the best idea was the polystyrene tiles covering all the ceilings :) - thank you darling for your hard work to get rid of it, you're the best!
But we didn't mind all that work ahead because we could feel something good about this house, we could see the potential and we knew it would be the best chance to make it how we would like it.

The house.

A fabulous and exciting journey. Last spring we were thinking about moving, we first fall in love with the town, we came back a couple of time to taste again and again the atmosphere, and then, this house was waiting for us... we went in, we looked each other: that it, we knew! une évidence. A Victorian house in need of modernisation (perfect :), much space than we could expect, wooden floor, and my eyes were just fixing the original features on the ceiling... maybe some fireplaces are hidden behind these boards.... A month, so quick, and we were moving in beginning of July.
Since I was little, I have been a lot in the middle of building site - it's a family story, a passion - and this new project couldn't make me more enthousiastic about it... sometimes a bit too much (sorry darling)... we wished, we talked a lot, we planned and thought again. The ideas for our new house were coming naturally, how we would like to live the space, how we are used to live, what we would hope to feel there.
After two months, some muscles to help, late nights, a lot of diy, a few bids on ebay, trips to Ikea and a huge amount of dust  ... Yeppee! we are finally getting used to our new house. Some bits and pieces still need to be finished  but here we are...the house changed a lot, it's more like us now and I have to say ... we're quite proud we did it ;)

Summer colors.

  

Like a monday.

*the summer is now definetely over and the last week pictures from France are still shinning
*september is on its way to meet the colours of the autumn
*i am back, in a kind of "normal" life ... with a new background to explore :)

Two months perhaps because it was summer time.

Two months to switch off a bit and hide also (I have to admit...)

Two months to have time to enjoy what was going on.

Two months because our life changed and projects were taking shape.

Two months because we moved to a new town, a new county, a new house.

Two months extremely busy and fast but full of happiness ... in need to be protected, so new and so good, just for ourselves, for a time, just the time to feel ready to be there, see  and share.

I would like to say thank you for your thoughts and your messages the last months.
